Checkpoint: beginner Spanish
Check a range of useful skills, then choose what to practice next.
What you’ll work on
- Check core sentence patterns in context.
- Produce a short conversation and written message.
- Set a practical next learning goal.
A short conversation
Google voice when available; device voice as a fallback. Read along, then try each line aloud.
Hola. ¿Cómo estás?
Hello. How are you?
Bien, gracias. Voy a visitar el museo mañana.
Fine, thank you. I am going to visit the museum tomorrow.
¿A qué hora abre?
At what time does it open?
A las diez. ¿Quieres ir?
At ten. Do you want to go?
Sí. Me gusta el arte.
Yes. I like art.
Perfecto. Nos vemos allí.
Perfect. See you there.
Review your understanding
This final checkpoint samples the foundations; eight questions cannot measure all of your Spanish. Work through the items, then complete the speaking and writing tasks. Use the explanations to choose which lessons to revisit. This is a practice course, not a certified A1 assessment.
Continue listening, speaking, and reading
Choose a manageable next step: regular understandable listening, a short conversation with feedback, and reading about familiar topics. Return to the course when a pattern needs review. Continue practicing these sentence patterns in conversations and with texts about familiar topics.
Lesson vocabulary
Listen once, say it aloud, and try to recall the Spanish before looking.
| Spanish | English | Listen |
|---|---|---|
| nos vemos | see you | |
| allí | there | |
| el arte | art | |
| mañana | tomorrow |
Practice questions
Try every question, then check your answers. Capital letters and punctuation do not affect your score. Accents and ñ do matter.
Showing an answer makes that question a practice item worth zero for this attempt. Retry with the answers hidden when you’re ready. If audio cannot play, use Show answer / text to practice by reading.
Independent practice
These are independent practice tasks. The site does not record your voice, save your writing, or grade open-ended answers. Ask a teacher or conversation partner for feedback when you can.
Speaking practice
Hold an imaginary conversation with a new person: introduce yourself, ask a practical question, describe a preference, make a plan, and close politely. Ask for repetition once.
Writing practice
Write 60–90 words about yourself or a fictional visitor: name and origin, present location, a routine, likes, and a plan. Check each verb against its subject.
Review the lesson objectives
Select the tasks you can complete independently. This self-assessment does not change your quiz score.
