Review: orders, prices, and times
Combine an opening time, an order, and a price.
What you’ll work on
- Understand a short café plan.
- Ask for a price and place an order.
- Use the right time phrase.
A short conversation
Google voice when available; device voice as a fallback. Read along, then try each line aloud.
El café abre a las doce.
The café opens at twelve.
Perfecto. Tengo hambre. ¿Cuánto cuesta la sopa?
Perfect. I am hungry. How much does the soup cost?
Cuesta treinta pesos.
It costs thirty pesos.
Para mí, una sopa y un té sin azúcar, por favor.
For me, a soup and a tea without sugar, please.
Y para mí, un sándwich.
And for me, a sandwich.
Link a time to an action
Use a las or a la when saying when the café opens or when you meet. Use son las or es la when giving the time now. Read the first line aloud, then replace doce with una and notice the article change.
Listen for complete phrases
At a café, the important unit may be a whole phrase: sin azúcar, para llevar, or treinta pesos. If you recognize only one word, use the situation to help, then ask for repetition if needed. The prices here are invented for language practice.
Practice as the customer and server
Take the customer’s part and then the server’s. Ask what someone wants, repeat an order to check it, and give a price. Change only one item each round so you can concentrate on producing the phrases smoothly.
Lesson vocabulary
Listen once, say it aloud, and try to recall the Spanish before looking.
| Spanish | English | Listen |
|---|---|---|
| la sopa | the soup | |
| el té | the tea | |
| sin azúcar | without sugar | |
| treinta | thirty | |
| doce | twelve | |
| tengo hambre | I am hungry |
Practice questions
Try every question, then check your answers. Capital letters and punctuation do not affect your score. Accents and ñ do matter.
Showing an answer makes that question a practice item worth zero for this attempt. Retry with the answers hidden when you’re ready. If audio cannot play, use Show answer / text to practice by reading.
Independent practice
These are independent practice tasks. The site does not record your voice, save your writing, or grade open-ended answers. Ask a teacher or conversation partner for feedback when you can.
