Checkpoint: describe your surroundings
Check articles, agreement, and the uses of ser, estar, and hay.
What you’ll work on
- Recognize accurate noun phrases.
- Choose a verb for a clear meaning.
- Describe a place independently.
A short conversation
Google voice when available; device voice as a fallback. Read along, then try each line aloud.
¿Hay una mesa en la habitación?
Is there a table in the room?
Sí. Es una mesa pequeña.
Yes. It is a small table.
¿Dónde está?
Where is it?
Está al lado de la puerta.
It is next to the door.
Identify the sentence’s meaning
Each question gives enough context to choose a sentence pattern. Pay attention to whether a place is being introduced or is already known, and to whether a description gives identity, location, or a state.
Check agreement across the noun phrase
For noun phrases, inspect the article, the noun, and the adjective together. After the questions, create your own room description. A correct multiple-choice answer and an independent sentence are different achievements; practice both.
Lesson vocabulary

| Spanish | English | Listen |

| pequeño / pequeña | small | |
| la habitación | the room | |
| la mesa | the table | |

Practice questions
Try every question, then check your answers. Capital letters and punctuation do not affect your score. Accents and ñ do matter.
Showing an answer makes that question a practice item worth zero for this attempt. Retry with the answers hidden when you’re ready. If audio cannot play, use Show answer / text to practice by reading.
